disk_kit

We use it in VulpShift — our macOS app for working with storage devices. The package provides disk operations, while the app combines them into a backup, format and restore workflow. Read how we combine Flutter, disk_kit and macOS.

A Flutter package for disk management and preparing installation media on macOS. It provides a Dart API and a native Swift implementation. It combines device discovery and volume operations with data copying and disk image writing.

  • Discover disks, partitions and volumes, and watch device changes.
  • Mount, unmount, eject and rename volumes.
  • Copy files and directories with file-level progress reporting.
  • Format external disks and volumes as exFAT, FAT32, APFS or HFS+.
  • Write IMG and USB-compatible hybrid ISO images with optional read-back verification.
  • Prepare Windows UEFI and macOS installation media.

The current release, 1.2.3, requires macOS 12+, Flutter 3.27+, Dart 3.6+ and execution outside App Sandbox. Windows and Linux implementations are planned; Windows installation media is prepared on macOS.

Large WIM files in the Windows installer require a separately supplied copy of wimlib.

The optional disk_kit_macos_extensions — on pub.dev, in a new tab adds integration with NTFS and ext2/ext3/ext4 formatting tools and checks volume access. It requires separately supplied tools; it does not install drivers or replace macOS support for these file systems.

Flutter / UI / MIT

horizontal_compass

A widget displaying a horizontal scale with coloured segments and an indicator. It can operate within a fixed range or loop, for example when showing a heading or a position in a cyclic range.

  • Configure segments, colours, range and tick spacing.
  • Adjust dimensions, lines and indicator appearance.
  • Finite and infinite modes.

This is a UI component, not a reading from the device's compass. Your app supplies the value to display. Find API details and an example on pub.dev.
